- Smart Label Printer Plus(TM) - UPDATE
-
- Smart Label Printer Plus for Windows(TM) and DOS
- Version 3.00 - July 13, 1993
-
- The following information was not available at the time that the
- User Guide was printed. Please take the time to read this BEFORE
- you begin, for important up-to-date information on the use of
- Smart Label Printer Plus for Windows and DOS. You may want to
- print this file and keep it with your User Guide for easy
- reference.
-
- This release includes versions of SLP for both DOS and Windows
- environments. The software may be installed from either the DOS
- command line prompt or from within Windows (using File/Run).
- Please install the software from the environment where you will be
- using SLP Plus most often.
-
- NOTE: If you already have a previous version of SLP installed on
- the target system, install this version into the same directory.
- The SLP program and related files will be updated automatically.
-
- If you have SLP Plus for DOS loaded resident on the target system,
- you must unload it from memory before beginning the installation
- of this version or you will encounter problems.
-
-
-
-
-
- SLP PLUS FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION
-
- The User Guide states that WINSETUP.EXE will install the SLP icon
- in the Accessories program group. This version of WINSETUP.EXE
- will create a program group called SLP Plus, in which it will
- install icons for both SLP Plus for Windows and the SLP Font
- Utility.
-
-
-
- VERSION 1.xx USERS
-
- If you are upgrading from SLP v1.xx and wish to use your old
- Memory, be sure there are no blank lines within labels stored in
- Memory or labels may be separated at the blank lines.
-
-
-
- NETWORK USE
-
- Shared use on a network is not supported.
-
-
-
-
-
- ***************SMART LABEL PRINTER PLUS FOR WINDOWS**************
-
-
-
- WINDOWS 3.0 USERS
-
- Smart Label Printer Plus for Windows utilizes certain features
- which are exclusive to Windows 3.1. Although great care was taken
- to provide as many features as possible to all users, there remain
- some functions which are only available to Windows 3.1 users in
- this release.
-
-
- TrueType(TM)
-
- The SLP Font Utility allows you to convert a wide variety of
- TrueType fonts into SLP Fonts. This utility is dependent on the
- support for this type of font built into Windows 3.1 and will not
- work in Windows 3.0.
-
-
- SmartCapture(TM) Bar
-
- The "Always On Top" and SmartCopy(TM) features require Windows 3.1
- and will not work when this version is running under Windows 3.0.
- The corresponding check boxes in Text Capture Settings are greyed
- to indicate that they can not be selected.
-
-
- Using COM3 or COM4 in Windows 3.0
-
- Windows 3.0 by default sets COM3 and COM4 at non-standard base
- addresses. If using either COM3 or COM4, be sure these are set
- correctly in the SYSTEM.INI file. For more detail on changing
- these settings, please read the SYSINI2.TXT file in your Windows
- directory.
-
-
-
- PRINTING LABELS
-
- If you install the software from the DOS prompt and want to use
- the Windows version, make sure that you set the COM port in SLPW
- (in the Label/Printer Setup menu) before trying to print a label.
-
-
-
-
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING PRINTING PROBLEMS WITH SLP PLUS FOR WINDOWS
-
- If SLP Plus for DOS prints successfully, but you find difficulty
- printing from SLP Plus for Windows, check the following:
-
- 1. Check to be sure that the correct COM port is selected in
- Printer Setup (in the Label Menu).
-
- 2. Be sure that "Flow Control" is set to "NONE" in Ports
- settings in the Windows Control Panel. See your Windows
- manual for information on changing these settings.
-
- 3. Be sure that the Base address and IRQ settings match that of
- your hardware.
-
- 4. If your mouse is attached to COM1, avoid using COM3 for the
- Smart Label Printer. Similarly, avoid using COM4 if your
- mouse is attached to COM2. NOTE: This is generally not a
- concern if using and EISA or MCA (PS/2) type system.
-
- 5. Avoid using non-sequential COM port assignments. For
- Example, if you have three serial ports, configure them as
- COM1, COM2, and COM3, and not COM1, COM2, and COM4.
-
- NOTE: Consult your dealer if you are not familiar with the
- process performing changes to this hardware.
-
-
-
-
-
- *****************SMART LABEL PRINTER PLUS FOR DOS****************
-
-
-
- DOS LOAD HIGH
-
- Smart Label Printer Plus for DOS cannot be loaded into high memory
- with the DOS LH parameter. To use high memory, run SETUP and set
- swapping to EMS or XMS. Resident Size can be set as low as 9k.
-
-
-
- UNLOADING SMART LABEL PRINTER PLUS FOR DOS
-
- When the SLP.EXE program is loaded resident there are two ways to
- unload and remove it from memory.
-
- 1) From the Main Menu select 'Options'. From the Options
- menu select 'Unload'.
-
- 2) From the DOS prompt type 'UNLOAD'.
-
- Note: In either case the SLP.EXE will not unload if a program has
- been loaded after the SLP.EXE.
-
-
-
- OTHER TSR'S MAY PREVENT SUCCESSFUL UNLOAD OF SLP.EXE
-
- When running in resident mode, SLP Plus for DOS is a TSR
- (Terminate and Stay Resident) program. In addition to the special
- loading requirements defined in the User Guide, you may wish to
- note that the presence of some TSR's will prevent the successful
- unloading of the SLP.EXE program.
-
- When SLP Plus is loaded resident after loading Carbon Copy, for
- example, SLP Plus will not unload until after removing Carbon Copy
- from memory first.
-
-
-
- SMARTCAPTURE FROM MULTIMATE
-
- DOS SmartCapture(TM) will include the ruler in Multimate
- Advantage. To avoid this, you may find it easier to set
- SmartCapture to Manual.
-
-
-
- HOT KEY SELECTION
-
- Avoid using the Alt key as part of your hot-key combination when
- using Microsoft Word 5.x, Microsoft Works, Norton Utilities, or
- other programs whose menu bars are activated with the Alt key.
-
-
-
-
-
- PASTING INTO SAMNA IV FROM MEMORY
-
- Paste from Memory will not work with Samna IV.
